Evolving guidelines to streamline dam safety practices.
Compilation of technical data and historical events of dams.
Developing and updating of standing orders for dam operations.
Coordination with specialized division, outside service organizations and professional bodies to carry out inspections, investigations and implementation of remedial measures for safety requirements of dams.
Monitoring the annual work program under the votes of Dam Safety Branch
Maintain the Secretariat of Sri Lanka National Committee on Large Dams (SLNCOLD) of International Commission on Large Dams.

Update & issue the circulars on Safety of Headworks conducting regular inspections & reporting procedure ID circular 4/2013 in March 2013
Monitor the progress of conducting quarterly inspections on major dams in each range as stipulated in the circular in order to streamline the practices.
Distribution of allocation for all ranges under the votes according to the priority list.
Field inspection for major & medium tank in regularly and emergency situations
Conducting awareness programmes on Dam Safety Aspects & Instrumentation with all field staff in regions.
Carry out the works for rehabilitation of head works under foreign funded projects.
Arranging workshops, conferences & Seminars by Sri Lanka National Committee on Large Dams (SLNCOLD) of International Commission on Large Dams for knowledge of the members
