Objective

Hydraulics Research Laboratory of the Irrigation Department is carrying out Hydraulic Model Investigations and field investigations for the Irrigation Department.In addition to that, this branch provides consultancy services to the other organizations and undertaking repairs and maintenance of survey instruments distributed island-wide field offices in this institute.

Functions

  • Construction of Hydraulics scalar models including installation of measuring apparatus and scientific equipment and carrying out model tests, tabulating test results, preparing diagrams and reports.
  • Field inspections on the request, to provide technical recommendation and opinions for hydraulics issues.
  • Fabrication, installation and calibration of measuring devices for flow measurements.
  • Seepage studies in canal distribution systems.
  • Calibration of sluice outlets and providing rating curves.
  • Exhibition Models preparation and participation for exhibitions.
  • Conducting practical sessions for other institutes.
  • Assisting to final year undergraduate students for their final year research project work.
  • Service and repairing of survey instruments island-wide.
