The area of Galle Irrigation Region consists of Galle &Mathara Administrative Districts. Under the supervision of the Regional Irrigation Director, there are three Irrigation Engineer Divisions located to carry out the functions of the Irrigation Department. These divisions are namely Ginganga, Ambalangoda & Mathara. Each of these divisions are manned by a Divisional Irrigation Engineer and technical staff under his supervision. These Irrigation Engineers Divisions are further divided into several Irrigation Units to manage operation and maintenance activities efficiently and effectively to the farming community.
The total Irrigable Area of this Irrigation Region is 35,033 ac and it consists in 15 Nos of Irrigation Schemes.
