The area of Hambantota Irrigation Region fully consists of Hambantota Administrative District. Under the supervision of the Regional Irrigation Director, there are three Irrigation Engineer Divisions located to carry out the functions of the Irrigation Department. These divisions are namely Hambantota, Thissamaharamaya & Weeraketiya. Each of these divisions are manned by a Divisional Irrigation Engineer and technical staff under his supervision. These Irrigation Engineers Divisions are further divided into several Irrigation Units to manage operation and maintenance activities efficiently and effectively to the farming community.
The total Irrigable Area of this Irrigation Region is 65,608 ac and it consists of 25 Nos of Irrigation Schemes.
