Objectives

This branch handles all the environmental matters pertaining to the Irrigation Department.

Functions

Main responsibility is to obtain the Environmental Approval (EIA/IEE) from Central Environmental Authority or Project Approving Agency for all the projects under the purview of the Irrigation Department. In addition to that following functions are carried out by this branch.

• Issuing Irrigation Department clearances, whenever necessary for the projects handled by the other government institutes and private sector such as Highway projects, Mini-hydropower projects, Industrial land fillings, Hotel resort projects, Drinking water projects, Railway projects, Power transmission projects etc.
• Representing Irrigation Department as the TEC member and reviewing EIA/IEE reports and Technical Evaluation Committee Meetings / submit comments / recommendations / suggestions to Central Environmental Authority and other project approving agencies.
• Attending to environmental matters in the irrigation projects.
• Environmental monitoring works in government and private sector projects related to Irrigation Department.
• Issuing recommendations, consent letters for river sand mining and land base sand mining etc.
• Issuing recommendations for de-silting in irrigation tanks.
