The area of Colombo Irrigation Region consists of five Administrative Districts. These are Colombo, Gampaha, Kaluthara, Rathnapura& Part of Kegalla Districts. Under the supervision of the Regional Irrigation Director, there are five Irrigation Engineer Divisions located to carry out the functions of the Irrigation Department. These divisions are namely Colombo, Gampaha, Kaluthara& Rathnapura. Each of these divisions are manned by a Divisional Irrigation Engineer and technical staff under his supervision. These Irrigation Engineers Divisions are further divided into several Irrigation Units to manage operation and maintenance activities efficiently and effectively to the farming community.

The total Irrigable Area of this Irrigation Region is 34,752 ac and it consists of 30 Nos of Irrigation Schemes
